Abstract:

Environmental Stewardship, a prime advocacy statement of the St. Paul of Chartres Education Ministry – Philippine Province, is also the major advocacy of SPUP encouraging the faculty, staff and students to carry-out activities and researches on environmental protection and ecological conservation which will eventually become an important measure in gauging productivity of the university. In Republic Act No. 9729, otherwise known as the “Climate Change Act of 2009″ of the Republic of the Philippines, it specifically and significantly spells to afford full protection and the advancement of the right of the people to a healthful ecology in accord with the rhythm and harmony of nature. But over and above this, St. Paul University Philippines continues to innovate on its activities such that the changing needs of the times and people are addressed as it is slowly becoming the lead institution in Northeastern Philippines in prioritizing environmental concerns, climate change mitigation and disaster risk reduction as direct application of its thrusts on good governance, transparency and accountability towards productivity. In fact, a continuing management of the university’s waste products, its intensive electricity conservation program, water conservation and stabilization efforts, pollution control activities together with its biodiversity conservation program has provided the university significant business and environmental gains. This paper, hence, documents the environmental programs carried out by St. Paul University Philippines which lead to environmental gains such as monitoring the university’s carbon emissions and oxygen reserves and productivity benefits.
