Abstract:

This case study determined the most practical and economical solution in enhancing the transmission media of video and data signal of the Community Cable Vision Corporation (CCVC) in the municipality of Los Banos, Laguna. The researchers presented three alternatives, namely, replacement of advanced line extender amplifier, implementation of digital transmission over the existing HFC network, and implementation of satellite dish. In choosing the best alternative, the researchers conducted economic study and SWOT analysis, and checked the criteria. In the economic study, three methods facilitated the comparison of the three alternatives, namely, rate of return (ROR), payback/payout period, and present worth method. The SWOT analysis was also used as basis of the advantages and disadvantages of the alternatives. The researchers likewise considered the criteria of the alternatives according to the clients’ standards. Alternative No. 2: Implementation of Digital transmission over the existing HFC network was deemed the best alternative.
