THE SAPATOS FESTIVAL: BRACING THE SHOE-MAKING INDUSTRY IN THE CITY OF MARIKINA

Abstract:

This study determined the socio-cultural, socio-political and socio-economic impact of Sapatos Festival to the local community of Marikina through survey and interview as perceived by the shoemakers, residents and local businessmen in Marikina. The researchers determined the profile of the Sapatos Festival in the last four years in terms of activities, community involvement, and tourist arrivals. The socio-cultural and socio-political impact included level of local interest and participation of the local community, strengthening local values and tradition, and changes in social organization, roles, and patterns of relationship. The socio-economic and socio-political impact of the festival included total expenditures of the local government, creation of employment, labor supply and level of sales performance of the Sapatos Festival.
