Bilingual Literatures for Globalized Philippine Classes: A Crosslingual Approach*

Abstract:

Bilingual literatures are vital in globalized Philippine classes. Te conjecture is supported by Philippine laws, international laws, theories of language, and theories of translation. Significantly, the purpose of the research is to produce English translations of select literatures suited for L2 to FL readers of Philippine literatures. Te present research utilized mixed methods. Initially, the crosslingual approach is employed in processing the select literatures from Philippine language (Cebuano Visayan) to English. Te process included: morpheme equivalency, syntactic analysis, and figurative language consideration. Te pre-, mid-, and post-crosslingual challenges are noted, including thematic issues arising from
both literary and linguistic perspectives. While there are no existing studies on testing translated manuscripts with consideration to target readers, the current research attempted to test the translations by subjecting the material to random testing to confirm students’ reading ease and comprehension. Finally, a bilingual book comes out as an output of the research to target both academic and leisure reading which accommodates the international reading public.
