Abstract:

Bangladesh has a dire need to improve and update the standard of existing intelligence testing which is an integral part of the assessment process as well as the prerequisite for educational placement of children with disabilities. The study aims to develop an age-based norm through standardizing an intelligence scale. The study was a cross sectional quantitative study. In this aspect, the researcher used Stanford-Binet Intelligence Scale Fifth Edition (SB5). Hence, the research was designed to complete the criterion for standardizing the intellectual ability test. For the calculation of age norm, the study has considered 3300 children from six divisional metropolitan cities to represent urban Bangladesh. Based on the raw scores obtained from the ten subtests, age norm was calculated separately for the 11 (6-16) age groups. The intelligence quotient (IQ) ranges for age norm of 6 to 16 years children are 86 to 152. Thus, the findings revealed that age norm is developed and standardized SB5-BD is regarded as the contemporary valid assessment scale to identify the intellectual ability of school age children in Bangladesh.
