Abstract:

This quantitative study identified the level of work competency and job performance of the permanent employees of the City Government of Santa Rosa (CGSR), and determined if there is a significant relationship between the two variables. Two self-made survey questionnaires were used for the permanent employees and the department head. The work competency questionnaire was a self-assessment for the employees to determine their perception on their competitiveness at work. The department head, on the other hand, answered the job performance questionnaire of the employees as well as the work competency questionnaire. The researchers selected 7 respondents from the PESO Department and 17 from the HR Department, for a total of 24 respondents. In analyzing the gathered data, mean was used to analyze the level of work competency and job performance of the permanent employees. Chi-square test was used to determine the correlation between the two variables. Results revealed a significant relationship between work competency and job performance. Based on the findings, the researchers formulated recommendations for the career development program of CGSR to help the employees become more competitive and better able to perform quality work which can help the organization to achieve its goal.
