Abstract:

The study developed a system that monitors the returned and borrowed books by using a self-service kiosk. It organizes or sorts returned books in a shelf with less supervision from the library staff. The windows application allows the administrator to generate reports of transactions made in the kiosk for monitoring. The system used an Arduino Uno R3 together with the IR sensors. The system for returning books throws the information about the book to where the category of book is included too. The microcontroller is responsible for the sorting of books. A fingerprint scanner was utilized for a more secured borrowing and returning of books, thus preventing someone from using someone’s identity. With the use of this system, the existing OPAC or Online Public Access Catalogue used by libraries is innovated since the system is more automated and will help lessen manual human intervention.
