Design Improvement of Air Conditioning System of Calamba City Hall

John Crisman Barcela | John Oliver Aguila | Joshua Repomanta

Abstract:

Air conditioning is a necessity in the modern world, and almost every establishment has it. One of those establishments is the Calamba City Hall, which is one among the largest City Halls in Laguna. Like all other institutions, Calamba City Hall also uses air conditioning to maintain comfort not only for their staff and employees, but also for the citizens entering the eight corners of the building. Their current system is composed of multiple split type and cabinet type air conditioners that consume an appreciable amount of space and at the same time energy inefficient. This inefficiency will not only cause economic problems but will also affect the environment indirectly due to the amount of energy being wasted. The current system (split type) relies heavily on refrigerants as the cooling medium which could accelerate ozone layer depletion in cases of leakages. These leakages in the system have a very high probability of occurring considering the number of operating units.
