Abstract:

The study determined the most effective filtration system for reduction of manganese contents in the water supply of Garden Homes Pumping Station at San Cristobal, Calamba City in order to generate significant savings. Data were gathered through interviews and observation on the present set-up and description and experimentation to determine the causes of the problems of the company. Lastly, calculation was done to determine the costs of the given alternatives. The researchers recommended adapting the first alternative which is improvement of the water filtration system with injection of potassium permanganate. Although alternatives two and three were also possible to reduce the manganese contents in the water supply, but the first alternative effectively converted the soluble manganese of the actual water sample to insoluble form making it possible to use filtering by passing through the layers of filter media and generating filtered water for the company, and resulting to instant savings for water consumption.
