LIFESTYLE CHOICES AND WELLNESS OF PROFESSIONALS IN DAVAO CITY

Abstract:

This study sought to determine the relationship of lifestyle choices and wellness of professionals in Davao City. It assessed their lifestyle choices in terms of nutrition, fitness, tobacco use, alcohol use, and drug use and stress management. It also determined the physical, social, emotional, mental, occupational, environmental and spiritual wellness of the respondents. The descriptive correlation method was employed using 300 respondents who were selected using purposive sampling. The results reveal that their levels of lifestyle choices and wellness are both high. There are significant differences in lifestyle choices among the different types of professionals in Davao City particularly on the food choices between the group of law enforcers versus the group of engineers and business people. The business people, on the other hand differed from the all the other groups in their fitness activities. Tobacco use posted significant differences between the medical group versus the law enforcers and the engineers. Lifestyle choices related to alcohol use, drug use and stress management did not significantly vary among the different groups of professionals. All aspects considered, a significant difference was noted between the medical professionals and the business professionals in their lifestyle choices.  Furthermore, the type of profession is not a significant factor in the social, emotional, mental, occupational, environmental and spiritual wellness of the professionals in Davao City.  In conclusion, the lifestyle choices of the professionals in Davao City are significantly related to their wellness.
