Mercedes C. Gamayon

Discipline: Nursing, Medicine

Abstract:

The relationship between the nurse and patient is established through communication and interaction. In nursing career, both verbal and non-verbal transmission of information is involved between the patient and the medical team. If interaction facilitates growth and development, maturing, and improved functioning or coping, then it is considered therapeutic. Therapeutic Communication in nursing reinforces the nurse-patient relationship. With therapeutic communication in nursing, the patient’s emotional state as well as their feelings is considered. However, nurses do not understand this; thus they can hardly deal effectively with a patient.
