Tourism Applications of Globally Important Agricultural Heritage Systems (GIAHS) in Japan

Abstract:

The concept of agricultural heritage emphasizes synergies between heritage and agriculture to explain the role of heritage tourism activities in globally important agricultural sites. The study determined the tourism applications of globally important agricultural heritage systems in Japan. The study used the descriptive-analytic design including documentary analysis. The results showed practical example of tourism and development in Satoyama as a tool for conservation and rural livelihood diversification. The study concludes that GIAHS provides a participating approach that allows local people to determine their main concerns and expectations based on what tourism development policies should form.
