Abstract:

On that Friday, eve of the October Caracol, the people of Salinas came in dusty throngs and crowded the church of the Virgen del Santo Rosario to see if what they had heard was true. Beneath festive buntings of plastic straws fashioned into stars, excited children, tanned from frolicking in the sea, arrived mostly ahead of the others.
