Mark Anthony P. Canios

Discipline: Family and Relationships, Society

Abstract:

Through the years, the importance and value of the family has been challenged as societies and civilizations continue to move forward. With the opposing values of materialism and hedonism so rampant now in society, the quintessential question remains, that is: what can make a family to be together, to be one, to be resilient despite the challenges and signs of the times?

In a lecture entitled, The Mystery of the Family, Gabriel Marcel, an existentialist, phenomenologist, theist, and humanist philosopher, outlines his distinct way of looking at the family. He proposes, at the same time, creative means and schemes, which could improve and appraise familial relationships. This paper thus examines what Marcel has outlined in his lecture. However, in examining the mystery that is, the family, the discussion will not only delve solely on Marcel’s ideas but will also make references to the social realities of the Filipino family. pag-aaral tungkol sa mga kuwento ni Rosario Lingat.
