Abstract:

Social Security System (SSS), Philippines is mandated by law to provide meaningful protection to members and their families against contingencies resulting in loss of income or financial burden, and to contribute to the socioeconomic development of the country, through a viable social insurance program (Section 2, RA 8282). In this way, SSS needs to establish and optimize its existing strategic communication plan. Hence, this study was conducted to determine the most preferred medium of communication for retiring SSS members when transacting business and accessing to information regarding SSS updates and programs. The study used descriptive design. Survey questionnaire was utilized in gathering the data. Among the communication media that SSS used in disseminating information, radio and television are the most preferred communication media among the retiring SSS members. The same were the communication media through which the retiring members accessed information. Putting the findings together, the study concludes that accessibility and affordability of media on the part of the media consumers matter in their choice of utilizing information. It is recommended that SSS Cagayan de Oro Branch should primarily use radio and television for most of its efforts in disseminating information, while still using the other media of communication.
