The First Typographical Book Printed in the Philippines

Jose Lopez Del Castillo Y Kabangis

Discipline: History

Abstract:

Before undertaking my bibliographical pilgrimage to Europe and America on September 25, 1951, one of the instructions given to me by my superiors in the Library was to look in the Vatican Library for a copy of the Libra de Nuestra Senora del Rosario of Fr. Francisco Blancas de San Jose, O.P., supposed to have been printed in the Philippines in 1602, and which was "the first book which of this or of any other matter was published over there", according to Fr. Fernandez in 1611 in his book, Historia eclesiastica de nuestros tiempos, published in Toledo, Spain.
