Discipline: History

Abstract:

One of the unanticipated consequences - at least to the general American public - of the Spanish-American War of1898 was the acquisition of the Philippines by the United States. The American people had long been indignant over Spain's policies in Cuba and naturally sympathized with the Cubans. American commercial interests in Cuba Had to be protected and American intervention was on humanitarian grounds - to liberate Cuba from the tyranny and the misgovernment of Spain.
