Our National Hero, Jose Protacio Rizal, is the Filipino Father of Philippine Ichthyology.
Rizal knew about fishes. Little known to the common tao but widely accepted among ichthyologists here is the fact that Rizal, among his many accomplishments, helped blaze the trail of ichthyology in the Philippines.
