Abstract:

Based on Parsons and Shils, theories are classified according to four
levels- ad hoc classificatory systems, taxonomies, conceptual framework and
theoretical systems. The lowest level of theorizing is the ad hoc classificatory
system. It consists of arbitrary categories constructed in order to organize and
classify empirical observations.
