Philippine Literature during the Japanese Occupation

Abstract:

This part surveys the field of literature during the Occupation, from two points: (1) literature as a means to achieve the ends set for it by Japanese and Filipino officialdom; and (2) literature as it expresses the temper of the times. Unless necessary, however, no critical judgment on these works is given, our main aim here not being a critical, but a historical, study of them.

 

Rather than just a mere chronicle of representative authors and titles, however, this section gives plots of short stories and quotes passages from poems. To be sure, plots alone do not the whole story make, nor passages, the whole poem, but they are given here if only to enable the reader to savor samples of these literary efforts.
