Abstract:

During the Japanese Occupation, a number of significant events, both local and national in scope, took place in Los Baños, Laguna. These included the establishment of an internment camp inside the campus of the University of the Philippines in Los Baños (UPLB), the liberation of the foreign civilian internees by the Allied Forces, and the massacre of several civilians in the town. This paper attempts to shed light on the historical developments in Los Baños in the context of the geographical characteristics of the town. The interplay of historical and geographical forces in the development of the town will be the main theme of this study.
