Persons with HIV: Their Risk Behavior, Emotional Response, and Coping Mechanism

Abstract:

From 1984 to July 2010, there have been 5,304 cases of HIV and AIDS recorded in the Philippines. Out of these cases, 170 were found in Region XI, and 144 of them were particularly from Davao City. This paper examines the emotional response, risk behavior, and coping mechanisms of victims with HIV and to suggest psychological interventions to the victims. The study reveals that persons with HIV became more adept in handling sexual relationship and were able to reduce risky sexual relationships. Thru the support of their family and Alagad Mindanao the respondents were able to find hope and improve their quality of life.
