The Basis of Development and Peace

Angel T. Bernat

Discipline: Social Science, Culture

Abstract:

The second millennium began with the Filipino nation still beset by the problems of poverty and lack of peace. The problems seem economic and political. The Professor's World Peace Academy, however, views what is apparent as just symptoms of the real problem which is neither economic nor political. According to these educators, the poverty in the Philippines is traceable to cultural traits unique to the Filipino (Ordonez, 1985). Lack of peace is also perceived as a consequence of cultural values interacting with a social system which provides wrong signals and encourages wrong type of behavior (Gorospe, 1997).
