Abstract:

The study aimed to determine the role of the affective domain in Mathematics learning of the first year high school students of Colegio de San Juan de Letran Calamba, AY 2009-2010. It utilized the descriptive correlational design. Through this design, the affective domain - attitudes and beliefs, of the selected 153 first year high school students of the Colegio towards Mathematics as a subject were presented and analyzed. Data were interpreted employing descriptive statistics.

Based on the results of the study, there is a relationship between the affective domain and gender of the respondents. On the other hand, socioeconomic status and academic performance of the students are not related to their affective domain; therefore, it was recommended that there should be innovative teaching strategies in Mathematics for the students to understand and enjoy the discussions in the subject very well.
