Phinotoshop at Pinacquiao na Larawan at Lipunan: Transnasyonalismo, Pastiche at si Manny Pacquiao Bilang Politiko-Kultural na Texto = Photoshopped and Pacquaioed Photos and Society: Transnationalism, Pastiche and Manny Pacquiao as Politico-Cultural Text

Abstract:

Ibinunga ng monopoly kapitalismo ang computer software program na Adobe Photoshop at iba pang katulad na programa. Itong Photoshop ay isa sa pinakaginagamit na instrumentong digital at elektroniko sa paglikha ng iba’t ibang larawan sa kasalukuyan. Katambal ang malikhain at kritikal na pamamaraan ng pagparodya at pagsatirika ng mga Filipino, ang Photoshop ay nagiging isang sityo ng kultural na praxis ng re-artikulasyon ng mga ideya’t reyalidad, kabilang na ang kultural na kahulugan ni/kay Manny Pacquiao. Sinisipat sa pag-aaral na ito si Pacquiao bilang kultural at politikal na textong lumilikha at bumabaklas at muling-lumilikha ng samu’t saring nosyon ng mamamayan at bayan. Inaasinta, lalo’t higit, sa pag-aaral na ito ang papel ng transnasyonal na kapitalismo, pribadong negosyo, at tradisyonal na politika sa paglikha ng mamamayan gamit ang Adobe Photoshop, new media tulad ng internet, telebisyon at patalastas.

 

Adobe Photoshop is a computer software program that is widely utilized in the creation and enhancement of contemporary visual and digital products such as photos, paintings, templates and the like. This program’s entrenchment in the visual and digital world may well be considered as a triumph of monopoly capitalism. But in the Philippines, as well as in other countries, individuals use Photoshop for their creative, critical, parodic, and satiric praxis of image manipulation. Here, Photoshop becomes a locus and a terrain for the cultural practice of re-articulating ideas and realities, including the cultural and political significations of Philippine boxing champ Manny Pacquiao. This paper studies Pacquiao as a cultural and political text that creates, dismantles, and re-creates the varying notions of nation and nationhood. This study further explicates the roles of transnational capitalism, private business, and traditional politics in the Filipino individual’s ideological creation using Adobe Photoshop, new media like the internet, television, and advertisements.
