Discipline: Languages
In our ESP classes, we teach our students to write definitions, especially the formal definition. In formal definitions, 3 elements are needed; the term, the class., and the differentia. The term is the word - to be defined and is usually given; class refers to the universe of objects, people, ideas, etc. under which the term may be categorized; differentia are the features or characteristics that distinguish the term from all the other members of the universe or class.
