Correlates of Consumption Expenditures and Coping Mechanisms of First Year College of Business Education Students in TIP Manila

Abstract:

The continuous increase of prices of goods and services has been perceived to be affected by the increase in the standard of living. Everyone makes consumer choices daily that ultimately affect ones financial security. Most of the students could not meet their basic needs and wants due to limited allowances they have and because of some factors that affect their expenditure.

This study was conducted to determine the extent of expenditure of the respondents based on food, clothing, shelter, transportation, savings, school supplies, telecommunications, miscellaneous, and social activities and correlate these consumption expenditures to coping mechanism of the College of Business Education (CBE) freshmen students of TIP Manila for SY 2006-2007.

This descriptive study used the survey questionnaire and interviews among the student respondents. Means and Pearson Moment Correlation were utilized to achieve the objectives of the study.
