Effectiveness of The Mathematics Student Development Center in TIP Manila

Abstract:

This study was conducted to determine the effectiveness of the Mathematics Student Development Center (MSDC) in TIP – Manila. Specifically, the study sought to determine how the tutees perceived the tutors in terms of: the delivery of the subject matter; organization of topics, responsiveness and relevance of topics. Furthermore, it sought to determine if there’s a significant gain between the pretest and the posttest scores of the first year students who were exposed to Mathematics Student Development Center. Likewise, this study sought to evaluate the percent passing rate in Math subjects of students exposed to Mathematics Student Development Center.

The quasi–experimental type of research was used with questionnaires, pretests and posttests administered to gather the needed data.

There were twenty – seven (27) respondents involved in the study who were attending the Math Clinic and Saturday Tutorials and who were taking their College Algebra class during the first semester of school year 2007 – 2008. The data collected were analyzed using the statistical tools such as weighted mean and t – test.
