Factors Affecting the Performance of Varsity Players of Technological Institute of the Philippines – Manila

Abstract:

The primary goal of this study was to present an assessment of the factors affecting the athletic performance of varsity players of TIP Manila. Specifically, this study attempted to determine the profile of the athlete-respondents in terms of age, gender, year level, course, type of school graduated from, number of years in the varsity team, and the profile of the trainer and coach-respondents in terms of age, gender, civil status, highest educational attainment, and years of coaching. It was also undertaken to assess the levels of athletic performance of varsity players of TIP Manila in terms of number of points obtained and number of winnings.

This study included all varsity players, trainers and coaches, and sports coordinators of TIP Manila. The subjects were the different sports categories namely: basketball, volleyball, chess, table tennis and badminton. It involved the one hundred seventeen (117) players from different game categories, eight (8) trainers and coaches, and two (2) sports coordinators to represent the sample. This research used the Sports Criterion Evaluation test being utilized by the national team, which was prepared and formulated by Dr. Ferdinand Valdez, Director, Philippine Sports Commission.
