Abstract:

The Technological Institute of the Philippines is popular for its unmatched cleanliness of environment. This is achieved through the school’s implementation of a program that encourages everyone to maintain the cleanliness of the school surroundings. The program is called 5S Program adopted from the Japanese culture, which contains the five (5) ways of maintaining the cleanliness in the workplace.

This study was developed to help the management decide whether to continue outsourcing or replacing the regular maintenance employees and determine the advantages and disadvantages of such a decision. Moreover, the study evaluated two groups in terms of their performance.

The study covered only regular employees and MACRO maintenance personnel who are responsible for the cleanliness of the campus excluding those personnel involved in handling electrical works and other tasks. The data were based on the evaluation given by the maintenance providers coming from two groups, the MACRO and the regular employees of TIP under the maintenance department. An evaluation was performed using the following criteria: performance, attitude and personality. The respondents were eight MACRO and six regular maintenance employees.
