DE LOS BRUJOS, UNGLOS Y OTROS SEMEJANTES DE SU ANTIGÜEDAD, Y SI LOS HAY AHORA TODAVÍA

La materia de este capítulo es la más ruidosa de cuantas hay entre los bisayas, y la más dudosa . La fama común de que hay entre ellos brujos, que llaman en Leite, Samar o Ybabao Aswang, y en Zibu y Bool, Aloc o Unglo, y en otras partes con otros varios nombres, es tan pública, que antes son notados los bisayas de que los más lo son; la verdad Dios la sabe.

CONCERNING WITCHES, UNGLOS AND OTHER SUCH IN THEIR ANTIQUITY; WHETHER SUCH STILL EXIST NOW

The material of this chapter is one of the most widely discussed among the Bisayans and one which is most questionable . It is common knowledge that there are among them witches who are known in Leyte, Samar and Ibabaw as aswang, and in Cebu and Bohol as aluk or unglu; in other regions they are known by various other names. This is so widespread that the Bisayans bear the stigma that most of them are such; only God knows the truth!
