Abstract:

Competency standards are instruments used to measure the ability of the teacher to teach effectively. It is noted that a teacher does not only develop a student intellectually but rather holistically. It is in this premise that this study was conducted, to shed light to the different factors that may lead to the total development of the learner.

In order to establish the adequacy and factuality of the data, twenty teachers from six colleges were encouraged to participate. After two rounds of planning and evaluating the criteria which may guide the social science teacher to teach effectively, the competency standards of social science teachers were compiled and ready to be used.  These competency standards were collected from responses of twenty experts who are teaching the subjects and who are Master of Arts degree holders.
