Religion, Philosophy and Culture in the Philippine Context

Dante Luis P. Leoncini

Discipline: Philosophy, Religion, Culture

Abstract:

This essay seeks to suggest that our country's independence can be perceived and understood as political freedom as well as cultural freedom. The concept of culture embodies notions associated with the concept of politics. Culture is defined as "civilization, customs, lifestyle, mores, society, the arts," or even construed as "breeding, education, enlightenment, gentility, politeness, refinement, taste, and urbanity." Politics, on the other hand, is defined as "affairs of state, civics, diplomacy, government, ideology, political science, power-politics, and statesmanship."
