Faculty and Student Involvement in Research

George Piron

Discipline: Education

Abstract:

I UNDERSTAND that what is expected from me is that I set the stage for a discussion which shall reach some conclusions as to the type of research programs suited to our schools, as to what kind of and how much research work our faculty members and our students should engage in. I hope to come up to these expectations by suggesting that we proceed in the following way:

First, decide on our objectives, i.e., on what we want to achieve;

Second, explore in which ways research can help, us achieve these objectives;

Third, take a hard look at our resources, at what we have got to achieve these objectives and

Fourth, try to draw some practical conclusions as to the type and volume of research that should go on in our schools.
