Abstract:

 

Do nonhuman animals possess rights? Do they deserve respect for life? While they do not have the moral rights and legal entitlements that humans have, is there a basis for suggesting that they should not be abused? How do we morally evaluate the status of animals? The welfare of animals is also an important matter for the way we treat nonhuman animals also reflect the kind of society we have.

While we don’t accord them liberty, there are prudent reasons to suggest that we should not at least expend them as if they are mere lifeless stones or minerals. But the norm in the manner by which we deal with them.
