Roles of Religious Organizations in Politicizing Voters in Selected Barangays of Atimonan, Quezon

Abstract:

This study aimed to determine the role of religious organizations in politicizing voters in the municipality of Atimonan, Quezon during election. The variables consisted of values education, voter’s education in preparation and information dissemination, as well as the voting behaviors of the respondents. The difference in the respondent’s perception on the role of religious organizations during the election and voting behaviors of the respondents in Atimonan, Quezon among the different kinds of religious organizations was also tested. A checklist Likert scale questionnaire was used as research instrument. The sample was composed of 449 members of the religious organizations. It was conducted from second semester A.Y 2013-2014 to the first semester 2014-2015. The statistical treatments used were percentage, frequency, weighted mean and Kruskal-Wallis test. Based on the finsdings, the researchers concluded that most of the respondents were members of Iglesia Ni Cristo. The roles played by the different religious organizations during election in Atimonan, Quezon were strongly agreeable to the people and the members. Also, the members of the different religious organizations in Atimonan, Quezon have almost the same voting behaviors. Thus, there is a significant difference in the role of Born Again, Couples for Christ, Iglesia Ni Cristo, Knight of Columbus and Munting Sambayanang Kristiyano in politicizing voters on selected barangays in the municipality of Atimonan, Quezon.
