Abstract:

TEMPCORE weldable steel bars, instead of the conventional low-alloy steel bars, are now widely used in the construction industry. A recent study, however, found out that 12mm, 25mm, and 36mm GR415W TEMPCORE weldable steel bars become weaker and brittle once buttwelded and subjected to tensile load. Subjecting GR415W TEMPCORE weldable steel to corrosion, this study investigates further its adequacy based on some mechanical properties. The findings showed that the corroded 12mm, 16mm, and 25mm steel bars reduced their tensile strength, yield strength, and ductility when they were placed in a wet environment for 60 and 90 days period. These reductions did not affect the compliance with the minimum requirement specified by PNS49-2002 and ASTM A707M. The exterior surfaces of all specimens did not crack when bended to 180º.
