Abstract:

Sustainability is a vital component that should be considered in monitoring and managing nontraditional information for making strategic choices. With the emergence of e-commerce, the strategic management planning of business entities also improved to utilize and cater to potential customers and profits. Resource-based theory has been used to study business resources and their capabilities as well through adjustments in current developments in business environments such as innovation in technology and organization. The VRIO framework of resource-based theory helped businesses identify what should be cultivated to add strength possessed by the firm. This study aims to determine if the VRIO core competencies can be utilized to predict whether a business will sustain its competitive advantage. The research used a descriptive type of research, and a self-made questionnaire to gather the data needed. The respondents are online business owners in Calamba City, Laguna. It has been concluded that there is a significant relationship between VRIO core competencies and sustained competitive advantage. Moreover, the firmographic profile of online businesses does not moderate the relationship between the core competencies and sustained competitive advantage. The findings of this study have led the researchers to identify areas that can be improved and propose action plans to maximize the sustained competitive advantage and core competencies held by the business.
