An Exploration of the Psychosocial Health Status of Women Artisanal Miners

Abstract:

This study determines the psychological health status of women artisanal miners in Barangay Puntalinao, Banaybanay, Davao Oriental. It describes the sociodemographic characteristics and the psychosocial health status of the women artisanal miners for the formulation of a self-efficacy enhancement program that responds to their peculiar needs. The study utilized a descriptive multiple case study research design and gathered primary data through the use of a questionnaire on the respondent’s sociodemographic profile and survey of psychosocial health status. Secondary data sources include key informant interviews, respondent’s journal entries, observations and outputs during the structured learning exercises, focus group discussion transcripts and the researcher’s log. Documentary review is also utilized to gather additional facts. Results show that the coping process, level of perseverance, and stress management of the respondents have moderate impact of their ability to manage life experiences.
