This study investigates the attitudes and expectations of Generation Y Asian students in hospitality management programs towards employment in the industry, and examines if there are differences among students in the East and West. Prior studies have shown that the Generation Y hospitality workforce has unique characteristics and attitudes in Western settings, yet cultural differences between the West and the East have not been elucidated. An online survey is utilized to examine the views of 86 hospitality higher diploma and undergraduate students in Hong Kong. Findings show that the attitudes towards work in the hospitality industry among Asian students are consistent with their Western counterparts, while expectations may be different.
