FIUPINO NATIONALISM

 

The growth of Filipino nationalism was caused by the propaganda movement which had aroused the national sentiment of the Filipinos. This growth had beem enhanced by the rule, though brief, of the liberal Spanish Governor Carlos Maria de la Torre' from 1869 to l871. But the change of administration in Spain meant a change of Governors in the Philippine Islands Thus. Rafael de lzquierdo took over the governorship from De La Torre on April 4. 1871, and ruled until 1873. During his term of office he suppressed freedom of speech. of the press. and of assembly.
