Ibn Batuta, in his account of his travels in the East, mentioned the land of Tawalisi.1 The name of the country was derived, according to Ibn Batuta, from that of its king. It was supposed to be ruled at the time of Ibn Batuta's visit by a princess named Urduja.
The land of Tawalisi, together with Princess Urduja, is a matter of much interest to students of Philippine history for the reason that Tawalisi has been represented as having existed in the Philippines and, also, because Princess Urduja is generally believed to have once ruled a kingdom in the Philippines.
