ENHANCED INSTRUCTIONAL MATERIALS FOR TEACHING CONVERSATIONAL ENGLISH TO GRADE 9 STUDENTS OF NICOLAS L. GALVEZ MEMORIAL NATIONAL HIGH SCHOOL, A.Y. 2014-2015 BASED ON THE EXISTING ENGLISH TEXTBOOK

Abstract:

This study prepared instructional materials to teach conversational English to grade nine pupils of Nicolas L. Galvez Memorial National High School. The proposed materials were intended to enhance their existing English textbook. The accent, pronunciation, vocabularies, and self-confidence were found as the areas of difficulties of grade 9 students in conversing in English. The teachinglearning materials the teachers and students were using were found not giving attention to conversation. Based on the discovered needs of the learners, the researchers prepared modules designed for teaching conversational English. Approach in teaching conversation was based on the 4 A’s used in the existing instructional materials being used by the grade 9 students in their said school. The pupils and teachers found the enhanced material for teaching and learning conversational English very interesting to them. Based on this, the researchers concluded that the prepared materials were very appropriate and suitable for the grade 9 students of Nicolas L. Galvez Memorial National High School. They appropriately enhanced English textbook being used by the subjects of this study.
