Discipline: Literature
Among writers, readers, teachers, and students of literature, the regard for literary theories enhances the writing of creative fiction, the reading of literary materials, the teaching of canonical and non-canonical texts, and the appreciation of those who encounter these cultural endeavors first hand. This paper attempts to define and describe the post-colonial perspective with particular focus on its three areas of concern: hybridity, language, and voice, which have now become recognized traits of Post colonial discourse. In the process, a discussion of the literary scholars who have advanced the theory in their critical work on post-colonial authors has been included.
