This paper presents an overview of the philosophical and psychological constructs underlying a larger research study on parental verbal abuse. From an interdisciplinary perspective, the article explores the deep affront of parental verbal abuse to me dignity and total well-being of the child. Through definitions and taxonomies, international declarations and documents, psychological research findings, and a discussion of several foundational concepts, the phenomenon of verbal abuse is highlighted and its profound effects on child development implied.Â
