Writing is one of the four basic skills in language learning. It is a powerful and a painstaking process, the execution of which is perhaps the most educational cognitive activity in which the teacher and students can be engaged. According to Squire (1987), the act of writing, of organizing ideas with a view to communicating to others, does more than simply demonstrate what knowledge one has. Writing reinforces, transforms, and activates that knowledge. However, it is sad to note that many students have writing difficulties. They have a difficult time writing paragraphs correctly. If they are able to write, they commit many grammatical errors. Aware of this problem, the University thought of a way to help students’ improve their writing skills. Thus, the Capitol University Writing Laboratory came into being. It was designed primarily to exercise leadership in integrating the proper and effective application of tutorial sessions for the improvement of students’ writing skills. Its goal is to help students grow and mature as writers by providing tutorials that target difficulties they may have in academic writing
