Ma. Victoria Z. Godinez

Abstract:

This study profiles Grade 7 students from selected private and public schools in Caloocan and Malabon according to their Academic Self-Concept in English. Teacher perception of their students’ Academic self-concept is also compared with students’ perception. Results reveal that students generally develop positive ASC in English but there are differences between ASC in English when students are grouped according to gender and school type. Similarly, teacher perceptions of students’ ASC in English differ when students are grouped according to gender and school type with female L2 learners being perceived more favourably by their teachers and students from private schools being perceived more favourably by their teachers than their counterparts from the public schools.
