Abstract:

The number of Indonesians aged 60 and over is estimated to increase from 8.03 % in 2014 to 25 % by 2050. The statistical data in 2010 also show that Indonesia ranks fifth in the world with the most number of older persons. The increasing number of older adults poses a challenge to health care professionals to promote active aging, and more wellness programs to increase the quality of life among the elderly in Indonesia. However, some studies showed that mostly older persons had a lack of physical activity. These problems could lead to poor physical and mental health of older persons, and gradually affect their quality of life. This study was conducted to explore the association of living arrangements and selected demographic profile with the functional status and quality of life of older persons who are living in Public Nursing Home as opposed to those living with their own family.
