Albert G Musico

Abstract:

The study made use of the experimental method of research using pretest/posttest control group design. It aimed to determine the effects of social communicative approach on selected reading comprehension skills of grade 7 junior high school students of Holy Cross of Davao College academic year 2015-2016. There were 44 students in the experimental group and 45 students in the control group. The study made use of the 70-item teacher made test. The social communicative approach, when used in teaching reading comprehension, enhances the skills of the students in vocabulary development, literal understanding, interpretative perception and integrative knowledge of the students. The social communicative approach is based on the idea that learning a language successfully comes through having to communicate real meaning. Practicing question forms by asking learners to find out personal information about their colleagues is an example of the communicative approach, as it involves meaningful communication.
