The Philippines, Asia and Oceania: Living Organisms, Pulsing with Life, Living Tapestries of Culture and History

Leslie E. Bauzon

Abstract:

The paper argues that the original living inhabitants of the Philippine Archipelago were members of the Mamanua tribe in the uplands of Surigao del Norte and that they contributed to the early formation of the Filipino civilization. It also argues that we Filipinos must search for our Asian and Oceanian souls, and to take pride in them in the context of resisting colonial exploitation and its negative effects, because this would help us mold the foundations of the country’s future directions.
